Laura

Hi girls! (or should I say, catholic young women!) I’m Laura from Ohio, and I’m so looking forward to getting to know you!

I’m not a huge fan of bios because sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in defining ourselves by who we are or what we do…when in reality we’re defined by Whose we are and what HE does! Nevertheless, it’s fun to get to know each other, so here are a few things about me…

I work as a cardiology nurse and am so blessed by my interactions with the patients. People are beautiful and resilient—and many times, they end up teaching me instead of the other way around!

I live in a cozy duplex with my friend Andrea and my fish Jonah. We have some crazy-fun times around here but also enjoy improving our home-making skills like gardening, cooking, baking, and cleaning (for some reason, I really like to clean).

My family continues to be one of my favorite blessings—my parents, sister, twin brothers, brother-in-law, and adorable nephew-- and I’m delighted with the way we continue to grow closer to each other even as we kids grow into adults. My girlfriends have become my second family and I’m incredibly thankful for their support, silliness, and inspiration on this journey of life.

I am passionate about the Catholic faith and following the One who gave it to us. It’s a living, breathing faith with a Body that must be His hands and feet in the world today…but also knees that bend in prayer. I’ve had my ups and downs in this life (and will continue to!) with medical issues, relationship heartaches, and other struggles—but the Lord has been a constant presence and strength and comfort (even when I don’t feel Him!). I want others to taste and see His goodness, too. It’s so important that we learn our faith well and share it with others by living a life of love. Because He first loved us…

And since Marianne Dashwood recommends sharing “tastes, passions, and pursuits” when getting to know a person, here are a few of my favorite things (but first, did you catch the references to both Sense and Sensibility and The Sound of Music?): singing, writing, health food, laughing, Jane Austen, animals, card-making, tea, running, Anne Shirley, camping and the outdoors, flowers, reading, crocheting, Rachael Ray, and being authentic.

I would love to hear YOUR tastes, passions, and pursuits. Comment here or feel free to email me anytime—my door is always open for new friends.

  1. It's so wonderful to read this! I am so often stunned by the number of young Catholic women I find that have so much in common, despite being from different places, having different experiences, etc.! Who of us doesn't LOVE Anne Shirley, Marianne Dashwood, and Fraulein Maria??

I am passionate about education, good whiskey, the Rosary, and my husband (not necessarily in that order!).

  2. Hi Laura! I am a Nursing student, I really love this career too! It's amazing to see how people are grateful for our job. It is always good to hear there are more and more Catholics around these days... especially young women like us. I would love to read more of you in this blog -which I think is awesome-
    Kind regards,
    Anna.

  3. Hi Laura, and welcome! I love reading bios, especially when there's a list of 'tastes, passions and pursuits' to read. We share a lot of the same. (and I got the references to S&S and Sound of Music straight off, score!).I too love singing, writing, Jane Austen, laughing (a lot), running, reading and Anne Shirley. Added to that, I love to try most things at least once, just to see what it's like.

  5. Hi Laura! I am also a nursing student and like Ana, love it and that I get to do something for others for a career. I love reading, laughter, romantic comedies, buttered popcorn, hershey kisses, and catching up with old friends, to name just a few things. And I am a newly converted Catholic young woman. I can't wait to read more from you!

  6. Girls! Thank you so much for the warm welcome and for sharing a little about yourselves! :)

Martha-- totally agree how neat it is to find like-minded young woman from all over. The internet can definitely be a blessing!

Ana--I hope school goes well for you! I remember all too well how exhausting nursing school can be, but it's SO worth it. :)

Imogen--I love that you like to try new things, it reminds me of one of my girlfriends--she's always up for anything!

Katie--I see you're into NFP. I'm not married, but I use the Creighton model for medical reasons with having PCOS. It's been SUCH a blessing having NFP and Catholic doctors. :)

returningtorome--WELCOME TO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH, sister!!! So beautiful to hear that. :)
