Dearest Readers,
Greetings! I am very excited to be joining The Catholic Young Woman as the newest contributor. Clare kindly invited me to begin writing in this space and I am delighted to accept. I’ve been following this blog for a few years and have greatly benefited from the written perspective of the contributors here; I am excited to be joining the team.
First things first, I understand: a little about me. My name is Sarah Thérèse, the latter of which is actually my Confirmation name, but is what I go by on blogosphere. I was introduced to the Little Flower when I was a mere girl of 7 years, immediately knew she would be my Saint for Confirmation, and received the Sacrament 6 years later. My last name is a frequently-mispronounced German name, so most of my friends simply call me 'Sarah' and you are most certainly welcome to as well.
I was born in Virginia and raised in a more populated area of town. Sometimes in the evenings, when the sun is setting and the fireflies are coming out, a distant train whistle can be heard over the trees. I like it here, it's the only home I've ever known, and has the conveniency of being right next door to the Nation's Capitol. Many a homeschool field trip have been taken to visit the monuments and museums on the Mall in DC, and let's not forget the Catholic sites as well: the Basilica and the Franciscan Monastery are the precious gems of this city.
I have wonderful parents. My dad is a Permanent Deacon and my mom is a Secular Carmelite, so Catholicism has always been a pretty big part of our lives... I am the 4th of 6 children. My siblings are Anna, Gerard, Susie, Peter and Mary Rose; we were all homeschooled through high school and today are each spreading our wings to discover new horizons (my first nephew was born in March 2014!).
In May 2014 I graduated from college with a Degree in Early Childhood Education. I am now employed at a Catholic Montessori Preschool where we work with children ranging from toddlers through the 6th grade (my emphasis is 3-5 year olds). When I first learned about Dr. Maria Montessori and her method of education during my first year of college, I fell in love, only to fall even harder with my first step into a Montessori classroom two years ago. I look forward to learning more about the method (especially from the perspective of religious education) and to continue working in the field.
I enjoy a plethora of different activities: arts and crafts, hula-hooping, taking the stairs two-at-a-time, music (I play guitar and violin), reading, walking around lakes, and singing Les Misérables duets with my younger siblings.
My Catholic Faith is the dearest gift I have ever received, handed to me from my parents and older siblings. Homeschool gave me the opportunity to fall in love with Love at a young age and, to this day, I have the great joy of being a daily communicant. The very best moment of my day is always receiving Him. The path has not exactly been strewn with roses, though. St. Monica's prayers were finally answered in January 2013 when I attended National FOCUS Conference in Orlando, FL. Life has been so, So, SO much more beautiful since then and now I live every day of my life loving and serving Christ through those whom I encounter in daily life.
I have been blogging off-and-on since I was 17; getting to know others who are devout in their Faith through blogging has been a great gift. I've had the pleasure of meeting several of these friends in person and consider this one of the greatest blessings in my life. That being said, I invite you to contact me or visit my personal blog. I'm always up for a friendly conversation over a hot cup of tea and would certainly enjoy hearing from you. God bless you!
