What Can We Do?

Ladies, I read a great article in First Things today calling for the Catholic Church in the United States to focus on four main, practical objectives for the new year:

1. The ending of abortion

2. The return of large families

3. The renewal of classical education

4. The building of better churches.

What a great set of objectives! As the author of the article says, these correspond to the most pressing needs of the Church in the West.

Now, we're just a few young women. Most of us are in high school or college. We don't hold positions of power and we're not beginning families or building churches any time soon.

But we are the John Paul II Generation and we are a crucial part of the New Evangelization. So I want to ask for your ideas and advice. What can we do to further these objectives?

I have some ideas over on my personal blog too.

  1. I wouldn't say that everyone is able to have a large family, but adoption could be promoted for those who do want large families since there are so many orphans and those in foster care in need of families.

  2. This recent article in NCR is just another which confirms the Truth, 'Adoration Fights Abortion'. All Good comes through God. If we want to effect the world around us we must work in and through His Holy Spirit, or rather the Good is accomplished through the action of our cooperation with the Spirit. Adoration allows us time for Him to charge our spiritual battery, to fill us with that which we need to bring about Greater Good.

  3. Amen! Well, I can't really get to work on the second one, but the first one is probably a priority as well. And with classical books in such gorgeous covers, who can resist? Same goes for churches that are actually.... beautiful wha?!

  5. Dear Anonymous, that church is St. Mary of the Angels in Chicago... and it is lovely! You should come check it out if you're ever in town!

Dear Booklady, thank you for that lovely article. I couldn't agree more. Prayer really is our most important weapon in the fight against the culture of death.
